FAQ: Difference Between IMAP and POP3
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol):
- IMAP allows you to access your email messages from multiple devices because the messages are stored on the email server.
- When you read, delete, or move an email on one device, the changes are reflected on all devices connected to the same email account.
- IMAP is ideal for users who need access to their emails from various locations and devices.
POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3):
- POP3 downloads your emails from the server to your local device, and typically deletes them from the server (though you can usually choose not to).
- Once downloaded, emails are usually stored locally on your device and are not accessible from other devices.
- POP3 is suitable for users who primarily access their emails from a single device and do not require synchronization across multiple devices.
